Jordan Chiles enlists Michael Jordan to announce her plan to make a run for 3rd Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028
Jordan Chiles is planning to run it back.
The two-time Olympic medal-winning gymnast announced Wednesday that she’s preparing to compete in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
Chiles had previously been mum about her plans. She hasn’t competed internationally since she helped lead USA to team gold at the Paris Olympics in 2024. When asked about her 2028 plans, she told NBC Sports in August that “the wait is still on.”
That wait — for a decision at least — is now over. And it adds up that Chiles would want to compete again on the Olympic stage in Los Angeles.

A Los Angeles resident who graduated from UCLA in June, Chiles won four NCAA championships (two on bars, two on floor) while competing for the Bruins. On Tuesday, UCLA announced that Chiles would return to the gymnastics program for the 2027 season as a student coach.
A day later, Chiles announced her intention for the 2028 Olympics. That news wasn’t announced via a UCLA press release. Chiles, instead, enlisted a little help.
She made the announcement via an Instagram video narrated by her namesake, Michael Jordan. She captioned the video: “LA 2028… WHY NOT?”
Chiles, of course, isn’t guaranteed a spot on the 2028 roster. She’ll have to earn her spot, like always. The U.S. Olympic team is selected via a combination of trials and a selection committee.
But she’ll certainly have a leg up on making the team. Chiles helped lead USA to team silver in Tokyo in 2021 and team gold in Paris in 2024. She was also awarded the individual bronze medal in the floor competition in Paris. That medal was contested over a score adjustment and it remains in dispute more than two years later.
Regardless of the status of that bronze medal, Chiles is a decorated and competition-tested Olympic veteran.
Chiles is the fourth member of the 2024 U.S. Olympic team known to be interested in competing in Los Angeles. Hezly Rivera, Jade Carey and Suni Lee are all believed to be targeting a return to the Olympics in 2028.
As for seven-time Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles, her decision awaits. Biles told CNN in April that she’s “still at 50-50” on whether she intends to make a run at the 2028 Games.
