Wisconsin fans, former players, media react to Badgers’ blowout home loss to Iowa
The Wisconsin Badgers hit yet another low on Saturday night, as they fell to the rival Iowa Hawkeyes 37-0.
Wisconsin is now 2-4 (0-3 Big Ten) through six games. Its current four-game losing streak, all to Power Four opponents, includes a point differential of 126-34 (an average score of 31.5-9). Dating back to last season, the team has now lost eight consecutive games to Power Four teams. Two of those have come against Iowa, arguably Wisconsin’s closest peer program, by a combined margin of 79-10.
In summary, Wisconsin isn’t just losing games to tough competition. It hasn’t been remotely competitive against any Power Four team since last November.
Saturday’s low, a humiliating home loss that saw Wisconsin shutout at home for the first time since 1980, appears more like a program low than just a forgettable moment in a season that is quickly becoming full of them. As the results become more and more lopsided, it becomes increasingly challenging to see the program move forward without significant changes.
Wisconsin fans, former players and media reacted as such. Here is some of that reaction.

Luke Fickell: “Well, that’s as low as it can be. I apologize. I apologized to our guys. To not be ready, to not have them ready, I’m dumbfounded in a lot of ways. But that’s my job.”

Fickell called this a “bonehead move,” “undisciplined,” and “stupid” postgame. https://t.co/8Y13Sh2X3y

I sat through every game of the Morton era. I have the exact same feeling right now. In the words of Paul Chryst…:home run hire my ass.

#Badgers football comment: Save for 1997 season, I covered UW from 1995 through 2023. Saw two losing seasons and others in which the record left players/staff disappointed. However, I never felt the program was in the dysfunctional state it appears to be in today. Never.
