Steelers injury updates: Will Calvin Austin III play vs the Bengals?
The Pittsburgh Steelers currently sit at 4-1 and on top in the AFC North. This week, the Steelers have a short week to head straight into a second-straight AFC North game, this time against the Cincinnati Bengals. This significantly shortens the window for injured players to be game-ready, and this is bad news for starting wide receiver Calvin Austin III.
Pittsburgh had its first workout of the week on Tuesday, and Austin missed as he continues to deal with a shoulder injury. The team also listed Austin as DNP on Monday, even though this was a simulated report and the team did not work out.
If Austin can’t go on Thursday night, it will be his second-straight missed game. Austin suffered a shoulder injury in the Steelers’ win over the Minnesota Vikings in Dublin, Ireland. Since Austin went down, the Steelers have shifted their entire offense away from the wide receiver position aside from DK Metcalf and are utilizing multiple tight ends and running backs in the passing game and have given up entirely on keeping defenses honest with a second wide receiver.
