Pentagon says it is investigating US senator over video urging troops to refuse illegal orders

Investigation of Mark Kelly comes after Trump accused the Democrats in the video of ‘seditious behavior, punishable by death’

The Penatgon – which until Donald Trump’s second presidency had usually strived to appear apolitical – says it is investigating Arizona senator Mark Kelly for possible breaches of military law after the federal lawmaker joined a handful of other Democrats in a video calling for US troops to refuse unlawful orders.

The Pentagon’s statement, which was posted on social media on Monday, cited a federal law that allows retired service members to be recalled to active duty on orders of the defense secretary for possible court-martial or other measures. Kelly served in the US navy as a fighter pilot before going on to become an astronaut. He retired at the rank of captain.
