Girls soccer: Lady Pirates get big 9-0 win against Knightstown
The Lady Pirates’ soccer team got to play in front of the home crowd Monday and Greensburg made it well worth the price of admission.
Greensburg scored six goals in the first half and another three goals in the second half to knock off Knightstown 9-0.
Kadence Rich led the offense with five goals. Maria Scholle was right behind her teammate with four goals.
Scholle dished out three assists in the contest. Rich added a pair of assists. Mackenzie Schwering and Chloe Wentzel both had one assist.
Greensburg’s offensive pressure allotted the Lady Pirates with 41 shots on goal. Scholle and Rich both had 11 shots on goal. Kelsey Wentzel added eight followed by Emma Kennelly six, Alexis Weber two, Rachel Lipps one, Lilian Faris one and Chloe Wentzel one.
Greensburg’s defense was suffocating, limiting Knightstown to just three shots on goal. Keepers Peyton Powers had two saves and Hadley Meyer added one save.
Rushville
The Lady Lions improved their record to 3-2 Monday with a road victory at South Ripley.
Freshman keeper Natalie Dora led the defense with a shutout. Junior Emily Rouse scored both goals for the Lady Lions with assists from Kensleigh Jackson and Ellayna Aslpaugh.
Batesville
The Batesville girls varsity and junior varsity soccer teams traveled to South Dearborn Tuesday, and both brought home wins.
In the varsity contest, the Lady Bulldogs won 5-0. Marley Denning started the night off by scoring off a corner sequence and placed the ball perfectly past the keeper. Sydney Britton then got on the board and scored from the top of the 18-yard box, after receiving a drop back pass from Hailee Weisenbach. To close out the half, Weisenbach received a cross from Maddie Prewitt and buried the ball into the back of the net.
In the second half, a foul was drawn on the side of the 18-yard box. Weisenbach stepped up to take the free kick and drilled it up and over the keeper’s head for her second goal of the night. A few minutes later, a freshman connection happened when Elia Wade scored a header off of a Britton corner.
Batesville won the junior varsity contest 2-0.
Leah Goodin scored Batesville’s first goal and Avi Miller had the second goal.
