Labor Day ‘Dawg Bites

Happy Labor Day, Dawgs. Here’s wishing you and yours a relaxing day on this, the holiday set apart to recognize the contributions of the steadfast American worker. Have yourself a day, you’ve earned it.

Speaking of earning it, Kirby Smart’s team has earned some praise for their 63-3 Thrashing of Tennessee State, with observers noting that the Red and Black may have more NFL tight ends on the roster than some current NFL teams.

Also I agree with the comments in the replies. Four is a low estimate when you consider that Kaiden Prothro is fifth on the depth chart, Colton Heinrich and Brayden Fogle are behind him, and that all of them are former blue chip recruits. I don’t know how Todd Hartley keeps getting away with this, but I’m glad he does.

Dawg Nation offers week one grades on the Bulldogs, which were uniformly good except for the special teams. I agree, it was a pretty underwhelming day from that unit, which is an aberration for the Dawgs under Coach Smart. I like the odds of some of those issues getting cleaned up before we get into SEC play.

But enough about last week. The competition perhaps gets a little tougher this Saturday as the Classic City Canines take on the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. If you haven’t already take a moment to review Lugnut Dawg’s excellent preseason preview of the Hilltoppers and their unsettling mascot.

In case you missed it, the Hilltoppers out of Conference USA started the season by losing 49-14 on the road at Nevada. It was a pretty inauspicious start, with the Wolfpack churning out 323 rushing yards. I wouldn’t mind watching the Bulldogs do something similar.Until later…
