Stoughton High grad bringing NHL Stanley Cup home Sept. 10

The Stanley Cup is coming to Stoughton.

Jorge Alves, the head equipment manager for the Carolina Hurricanes, is bringing the storied Stanley Cup to Stoughton High School for a photo op next week, following the Hurricanes’ championship win.

“You can take your picture with the Stanley Cup!” the school said in a post on Facebook. “Jorge Alves, a 1997 Stoughton High graduate, is the Head Equipment Manager for the Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes.”

Alves will be bringing the Stanley Cup on Thursday, Sept. 10.

“This event is free and no tickets are required,” according to the school.

Why is the Stanley Cup traveling to Stoughton?

The tradition of the traveling Stanley Cup goes back decades.

Each year, the winner of the NHL title is awarded the Stanley Cup, and in the time following, each member of the team gets a chance to hold onto the trophy.

This year, the Stanley Cup‘s victory tour has included golfing, parades and a trip to North Carolina’s legislative building.

When is the Stanley Cup coming to Stoughton?

Alves will bring the Stanley Cup to Stoughton High School on Thursday, Sept. 10 from 2:30 to 4:15 p.m.
