Week 1 NFL schedule, inactives, live updates: Cardinals’ Jeremiyah Love expected to play; Steelers CB Joey Porter Jr. unlikely to go Week 1
Welcome to Week 1 of the 2026 season, where the dreams of fans that their team may be the one to hoist the Lombardi in Super Bowl LXI remain alive and well … for now.
There are plenty of storylines to keep your eyes on throughout the afternoon slate, but perhaps no team has quite as much to watch as the Pittsburgh Steelers, who have a new head coach in Mike McCarthy after Mike Tomlin stepped down this offseason. That puts McCarthy in place to reunite with four-time MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers — the very head coach-QB duo that defeated the Steelers in Super Bowl XL.
On the other side of the ball, cornerback Joey Porter Jr. is unlikely to play in Week 1, ramping up from a back injury in the offseason while also in the middle of a contract dispute with the team.
Among the key injuries to watch heading into Sunday afternoon: Cardinals RB Jeremiyah Love (ankle), Raiders RB Ashton Jeanty (ankle), WR Emeka Egbuka (toe) and WR Ja’Marr Chase (knee) all look poised to play in their respective openers. Meanwhile, fantasy managers got an unfortunate update on Raiders star tight end Brock Bowers, who will miss “a game or two” to start the season after undergoing a knee procedure last week.
